20.02.08 - A recession in the mind before one hits the pockets...
Recently a firm called to say that they were going to put a conveyancing vacancy on hold because they had read in the newspapers and the Gazette that things were a little rough at the moment. I asked whether the firm had seen a downturn in business, and the response was that business was booming, they were rushed off their feet, and they needed another lawyer to assist with the caseload.
Is it sometimes the case that the profession talks itself into gloomy scenarios by reading the headlines in the press without looking at the anecdotal evidence in front of them?
Whilst there has been a sudden influx of conveyancing staff looking for work following redundancies in Greater London, elsewhere in the country the legal job market seems to be staying relatively buoyant in most sectors.
