CHARACTERFUL & FRIENDLY

 Bolton is the main town situated within the Bolton Metropolitan Borough and is only 20 minutes from Manchester city centre. As England's largest town it is twined with Le Mans in France and Paderborn in Germany. Bolton’s characterful and colourful nature continues to attract people to the area and with a population of around 262,000 it offers an attractive alternative to the bright lights of city living in an accessible location.

If soaking up the past appeals to you then a visit to one of the most striking cultural hot spots, Bolton Abbey will be up your street. Situated on the banks of the River Wharfe, there is plenty to do in and around the Abbey with the site also hosting restaurants, tea rooms, cafes, gift shops and food shops.

SHOPPING

Shoppers won't be disappointed in Bolton with all the favourite high street names plus two department stores.  Shoppers will also find one of the largest retail and leisure parks in the UK just out side of the town, the Middlebrook shopping complex. It is home to many shops including Asda, Craftworld, Comet, Curry's, Holiday Hypermarket, JJB Sport, Pets at Home and Time Computers.

MARKETS

Bolton has a wonderful selection of markets on offer. Bolton Market on Ashburner Street is a traditional market renowned for its fish, fruit and vegetables and is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with a car boot sale every Sunday.

Other markets which can be found around Bolton include The Market Hall, open every day and hosts around 70 specialist shops and market stalls, Farnworth Market on King Street and Horwich Market on Curteis Street.

PARKS

Bolton is a centre for both outdoor and indoor leisure activities and as it is situated on the edge of the West Pennines it offers a gateway to many wonderful walking routes.

Jumbles Country Park is one of the best known parks in the area offering wonderful facilities including a reservoir for fishing.

Lever Park is another extremely popular park in the area which includes the Rivington Pike. This country park is set within the West Pennine Moors and consists of a moorland area of 90 square miles.

Smithills Country Park is situated on the edge of the West Pennine Moors and provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Bolton region.
